We were fortunate enough to have the so called "brownfield" site available. That's simply an area which has been previously developed and is neither urban nor greenbelt. Unfortunately with that space now used up the only viable, large scale, option would be to build on the green belt to the west of the already developed aerospace site. In other words to do away with the promised Country Park and endanger hundreds of species of birds and flowers. But even after building to the west of Hatfield's aerospace site in a place that the developers, Arlington, have perhaps cynically named Hatfield Green, insufficient plots would be available to create the 10,000 houses the Government wants to pack in. Infill developments throughout the rest of Welwyn Hatfield would be absolutely unavoidable with any space in your road a likely candidate.
The Panshanger
airfield, though already judged unsustainable for house building in a
recent review, would almost certainly become host to around 600 new
build properties and few inches of green space throughout the borough
would be safe from overdevelopment. |
