It's ironic that the Government wants us to host 10,000 more houses at the same time as slashing the hospital health provision in our area.

Just recently the Trust that runs the QEII Hospital in WGC has announced that in order to make good their £69m deficit in funding, they will be forced to consider closing the following departments; A&E, Maternity, All Surgery, Paediatrics, Cancer and more besides.

In a further blow to local healthcare the Government has also U-turned on its pledge to build a super-hospital at Hatfield. At best it would now only be a replacement District Hospital, but at worse (and this is what we all fear), the project may be about to be canned!

Meanwhile our primary and secondary schools in Hatfield are currently under review with every likelihood that fewer schools and places will be the outcome.

Set against this background, the idea of constructing 10,000 more houses to boost the population by up to 30,000 people seems downright irresponsible.

No Way To 10k wants the Government to draw up clear plans and clarify how we are supposed to get by without proper health and educational facilities now, let alone after such a massive house building programme.
