It was judged that there was land available to build this number of properties and although not ideal, the settlement did seem fair. Now, out of the blue, three government inspectors based in the Eastern Region (that means Suffolk in this case) have decided that Welwyn Hatfield should bear the brunt of new house building and they have insisted that the area is packed out with 10,000 additional houses by 2021. An increase of 4,200 without any consultation or consideration as to whether the area can withstand such large scale development. Worse still, we only have until the middle of October to object to these plans and despite the fact that they have no democratic legitimacy, if we fail to defeat the proposal then it will be our area that suffers. No one involved in the No Way To 10k campaign is arguing that there should be no house building and it's obviously important that affordable homes are available to our youngsters, find out why this is not the answer in the "Don't we need More Homes" section.
